Service Opportunity: Volunteer needed!
 

The AFGE National Citizenship and Immigration Services Council (NCISC) is requesting volunteers to apply for consideration for appointment to fill the vacant Eastern Region Vice President. This position will be part of the Council 119 Executive Board, with voting rights.

 

Candidates must have following qualifications:

 

1.    Be an employee, or retiree, of the US Citizenship and Immigration Services bargaining unit represented by NCISC

2.    Be a member in good standing in an AFGE local union affiliated with NCISC

3.    Be a member for one year of an AFGE local

4.    Not be a member in any labor organization that is not affiliated with the AFL-CIO.

 

The Eastern Regional Vice President serves as an advisor and assistant to the Council President for matters concerning bargaining unit employees within the USCIS Northeastern and Southeastern Regions.  Duties will include but are not limited to:


1.    On behalf of the Council, establishes and maintains communication for the purpose of mutual understanding and cooperation and assistance with the member Locals in the region.

 

2.   On behalf of the Council, and the member locals, establishes and maintains effective communication with the USCIS Northeast and Southeast Regional Directors and Agency labor and employee relations staff. 

 

3.      On behalf of the Council, establishes and maintains communication for the purpose of mutual understanding, cooperation and assistance with the AFGE National Vice Presidents whose districts are located in the region.


4.    Submits regular activity reports to the Council President, to include: communications, workplace issues and concerns of the member Locals in the region.  This includes but is not limited to: grievances, arbitrations, unfair labor practices, discrimination complaints, health and safety concerns and any other matter affecting working conditions member Locals within the region.

5.    Provides advice and assistance, as requested, to the member Locals in the region, to include training and mentoring of local officers and stewards, assistance in grievances, arbitrations, unfair labor practices, and any other procedure available to the Local union.

6.   Makes recommendations to the Council President for national-level representation of interest to the region's member locals. 

7.    Maintains a current list of Local officers within the region;


8.    Reporting to the Council President, initiates and/or recommends appropriate representational action on regional issues.

9.   Member of National Council organizing committee. 

 

Makes recommendations to Council President regarding organizing activities designed to build strong local unions in the region. 


10.    Performs other national representational and organizing duties as assigned by the Council President or Council Executive Vice President.
